Is San Miguel de Allende All it’s Cracked Up to Be?
Is San Miguel de Allende the best place to retire? Absolutely! Read more to find out why!
Every year, millions of American and Canadian snowbirds visit Mexico. While a majority of these visitors head to the beautiful beach towns like Cancun and Cabo San Lucas to soak up a little sun and relaxation, others head up into the gorgeous Sierra Mountains. It is here they find the amazing city of San Miguel de Allende.
San Miguel de Allende has been called the greatest city in the world by Travel & Leisure. But is it really all it’s cracked up to be? Is it really a great place to live and retire? Well, I may be pretty biased, but I would have to answer with a resounding YES!
Here are just a handful of reasons why San Miguel is a wonderful place to retire:
Great Amenities
San Miguel offers strong infrastructure. You are surrounded by fantastic toll highways that get you to and from places of interest, we have good internet, larger shopping malls nearby and two international airports within an hour’s drive for when family wants to visit.
An Instant Community
Because San Miguel is such a wonderful place to live, it has attracted expats from all around the world. How many expats are in San Miguel de Allende? Currently there is an expat community of roughly 10,000, most coming from the United States, Canada and Europe. When you move here, it is quick and easy to make new friends who share the same passion for a better and unique lifestyle! In fact, many of my clients have told me they have more friends here than they ever did back home.
Ideal Weather
One of the most popular things about San Miguel is that it has almost springlike weather year-round. So if you like cool evenings, warm days, and all without the sticky humidity of coastal areas, you’ll LOVE this city! And if you’re someone who likes to garden, you’ll be delighted by how effortless it is to grow just about anything in this temperate climate.
Is it safe in San Miguel de Allende?
The crime rate in San Miguel de Allende is very low. Like any city, there are those areas that are perhaps a bit less safe than others, and so those are the ones you avoid. I have many clients who are single, retired women and they have told me they feel very safe living here.
